Project Management
MAXIMIZE YOUR INVESTMENT IN
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Businesses are increasingly
investing in enterprise project management as a means to achieve competitive
advantage in their marketplace. Through project management, these businesses
hope to realize more effective and predictable project performance, reduced
time-to-market, streamlined business processes,
and improved cost control across their entire enterprise. In order to maximize
this investment, many of today's leading businesses turn to specialists
outside their organization to help them determine the best approach for
implementing or improving their use of enterprise project management. Using
proven methodologies, disciplines and best practice procedures, these project
experts offer the industry and application experience necessary to meet each
business's specific needs. As a result, these businesses can plan and implement
an enterprise-wide project management business model designed to meet evolving
business goals, while ensuring effective knowledge transfer relating to their
system.
Choose The Right Partner
In today's global market, businesses need to choose the right
consulting partner; someone that uses a consistent, structured approach to
consulting engagements, and has a proven track record of success in their
industry. By choosing the right consulting partner, businesses can reduce the
risk and overall duration of implementing enterprise project management, while
ensuring the achievement of business goals.
Qualified and Experienced Consulting Staff
By combining
global business experience with sound project management fundamentals, AIT helps organizations realize the full value of enterprise project

hands-on experience in a broad range of business environments.
- Software Project Management/Application Development
- Capital Project Management
- Product Introduction Management
- Process Development
- Information Systems/Information Technology Project Management
- Research and Development Projects
- Production Control Planning
- Cycle-Time Reduction
A STRUCTURED APPROACH TO PROJECT
MANAGEMENT
Effective project management integrates best practice processes
and techniques, flexible organization structures, and cultural values to create
an environment that can rapidly respond to evolving market conditions. To
minimize the risks associated with planning and implementing project management,
AIT uses ITIL practices to deliver comprehensive and complementary services that take
into account each aspect of project management. Each phase of the
structured approach has specified objectives and deliverables that provide
visibility and control of the implementation process, and ensure effective
knowledge transfer to the customer. ITIL brings focus and consistency to project
management consulting by breaking down broad issues into focused activities,
while still allowing the flexibility to adapt to each organization's specific
needs.
Define the Requirements:
The scope of project management
within an organization must be aligned to the strategy and achievement of the
business objectives. Process Assessment ensures that customer investment in
project management focuses on priority areas, and that each project management
discipline is addressed. Through evaluation of an organization's existing
project management practices, AIT consultants can define target objectives,
and provide detailed recommendations for improving identified "performance
gaps". The output from the Process Assessment serves to prioritize
improvements and recommendations for addressing the identified weaknesses,
including:
- Process improvement
- Organizational change
- Information systems
- Education and training
- Cultural change
Plan The Approach:
Effective planning of the project
management implementation ensures that both the business requirements and
implementation timescales are formally agreed upon and documented. Using the
Implementation Planning Workshop (IPW), AIT consultants bring the project
team together to review the implementation objectives, scope of work, and
critical success factors. Through the IPW, roles and responsibilities from both
an organizational and an individual perspective are established for the team,
all assumptions and acceptance criteria defined, and known milestones,
deliverables and timeframes are agreed upon. These are subsequently integrated
into a documented implementation plan.
Map the Systems to the
Organization:
Critical to the success of the project management software
implementation is a detailed review of how the system will integrate the
business's project environment. The Product Introduction Workshop (PIW) combines
a review of project management theory with an introduction to the software
functionality, thereby identifying any specific system and process-related
issues that need to be addressed. The PIW prepares the team for the Application
Design Review (ADR) which defines the roles, processes and data standards
associated with the system. Additionally, the system architecture and
configuration are determined, including any custom software requirements.
Extension Development enables customization of the system to match the specific
needs of the organization.
Pilot in a Controlled Environment:
The Pilot phase takes the implementation team through a full
project reporting cycle, and serves to validate the configuration and procedures
while ensuring effective knowledge transfer through hands-on training. During
the pilot, Role-based Training and Documentation is initiated in preparation for
roll-out. Several aspects of the project management environment have to be
considered; the organization, the roles and responsibilities, the standards and
procedures, and the software. All of these areas are integrated into focused
training courses that address the identified roles in the organization.
Roll-Out to the Organization:
Based on the validation and fine-tuning of
the pilot, the implementation can now be extended to incorporate other projects,
and deployed across the entire organization. This phase involves User Training,
and on-site assistance during critical phases of roll-out, with the option of
establishing a Project Office environment to provide on-going project support.
Installation Services provide on-site configuration and system set-up by
qualified technical consultants, and ensure the application is operational and
tuned to the customer's technical environment.
Manage the Change:
Processes and applications alone are insufficient for producing
real business change. Meaningful change only occurs when people are committed to
and capable of performing new roles in a new environment. To ensure that maximum
benefits are achieved from the system and process enhancements, AIT
consultants bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to assist organizations
in creating the appropriate culture and working practices. This can range from
Project Organization Design and Role Definition, to Project Management Process
Enhancement and the development of Standards and Procedures. Education and
Training is particularly important in ensuring acceptance of the cultural
changes implicit in the introduction of new business processes. AIT
consultants have many years of experience in providing focused training programs
that help to bring about effective change by integrating best practice project
management methods and case studies into interactive educational workshops.
These include:
- Management Awareness Workshops
- Project Management Training
- Project Leadership Skills Development
- Requirements Definition
- Planning/Implementation
- System Conversions
- Quality Assurance/Testing
Revenue Assurance:
By examining processes and revenue channels, AIT can determine if and where
you are loosing valuable revenue. In any recurring billing situation and
especially when reselling services it is easy for things to fall through the
cracks. With all the Add/Deletes/Changes that an organization can have for
a given customer certain items can sometimes be missed. If an error is
against the customer you can rest assured that you will usually find out about
it. If, however an error is made in favor of a customer, it is often times
never found.
